April 12, 2016
Sophomore Jonah Texeira fired a 3-under 67 while senior Andrew Levitt and junior Rico Hoey carded 2-under 68s, all three now in the top 10 for the No. 1 USC men's golf team, which is third after the second round of the Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo G.C. in Santa Cruz, Calif., Tuesday (April 12).
The Trojans, looking for their fourth win this season in their final regular-season event this year, sit a combined 2-under 698 (346-352), six back of first-place Stanford (692) and three behind second-place Oregon (695).
Hoey, eyes on his eighth top 10 this season, is fourth at 5-under 135 (67-68), six back of Oregon's Aaron Wise. Hoey, now with a team-best 12 rounds in the 60s, opened play with a bogey on 3 and birdied 9 to get back to even. He birdied 13 and bogeyed 14 to remain even but finished with birdies on 16 and 1 for the 2-under round.
Levitt, looking for his third top 10, is tied for fifth at 4-under 136 (68-68). The senior, now, like Hoey, with three straight rounds in the 60s, mixed and matched seven birdies (two in a row twice) against five bogeys. Texeira is tied for eighth at 1-under 139 (72-67) after his team-best round today that featured five birdies against two bogeys.
