Freshman Hoey Leads Trojans As Season Opens At Husky Invitational

    USC freshman Rico Hoey made his collegiate debut with a 3-under 141 - good for a tie for third place -- to lead the Trojan men's golf team in a 36-hole season-opening two rounds at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational at the Gold Mountain G.C. in Bremerton, Wash.

    Hoey, from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., fired rounds of 73 and 68 to help lead USC to seventh in the 15-team field at 6-over 582 (294-288).

    Hoey sunk seven birdies and an eagle on the par 5 14th during his 4-under second round. He was 3-under at the turn in his first round early before finishing it at 2-over.

    Junior Anthony Paolucci, the lone returning Trojan playing in the event, is tied for 15th at even 144 (70-74) while junior transfer Sam Smith, the younger brother of 2013 All-American Sam Smith, is tied for 19th at 1-over 145 (72-73).

    Sophomore transfer Bobby Gojuangco (81-73) and freshman Khaled Attieh (79-75) are tied for 63rd at 10-over 154.
