Trojans Tie For Seventh At Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational|
Sept. 17, 2013
Junior transfer Paul Smith tied for seventh to lead the USC men's golf team in the final round of the season-opening Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational at the Gold Mountain G.C. in Bremerton, Wash., on Tuesday (Sept. 17).
The Trojans appeared to have a better day going, but freshman Rico Hoey's round was disqualified after he signed for an incorrect card and his score was dropped. USC, looking at a top five finish, dropped to a tie for seventh at 11-over 875 (294-288-293).
Hoey had finished at 4-under 212 (73-68-71) in his collegiate debut before the scorecard error. He was on fire in his final round with six birdies without a blemish through 17 holes before a 5-over on 18.
Smith, the younger brother of 2013 All-American Sam Smith, picked up where his sibling left off last year with a 2-under 214 (72-73-69). He had three birdies against two bogeys after 17 holes and proceeded to eagle the par 4 18th hole to go to 3-under for the round.
Junior Anthony Paolucci, USC's lone returning player in the lineup this week, tied for 28th at 4-over 220 (70-74-76). Sophomore transfer Bobby Gojuangco tied for 54th at 11-over 227 (81-73-73) while freshman Khaled Attieh tied for 60th at 13-over 229 (79-75-75).
