Paolucci, Hoey Lead Troy At Gifford Collegiate Championship

    Junior Anthony Paolucci and freshman Rico Hoey are both tied for second at 6-under 134 after leading the No. 30 USC men's golf team to a tie for third after a 36-hole first day of the Gifford Collegiate Championship on Monday (Nov. 4) at the Pelican Hill G.C. in Newport Beach.

    The Trojans combined for a 3-under 560 (283-277), tied with SMU in third and nine back of top-ranked Alabama (551) and six back of Northwestern (554).

    Both Paolucci and Hoey opened with 68s and followed with 66s. Both of Paolucci's rounds featured five birdies and he birdied the par 5 8th and 17th holes twice. Hoey had four birdies against two bogeys in his opening round and then mixed five birdies and one bogey in his second trip around the course.

    Junior Paul Smith is tied for 32nd at 5-over 145 (75-70), senior Ramsey Sahyoun is tied for 40th at 8-over 148 (72-76) and senior Jeffrey Kang is tied for 47th at 10-over 150 (75-75).

    Action concludes Tuesday beginning at 7 a.m.
