Trojans Sign Local Prep Standout Owen Calvin-Smith

    Owen Calvin-Smith, a top California junior from Pasadena, Calif., currently riding a streak of six consecutive top 17 finishes on a top junior circuit, has signed with USC, Trojan Men's Golf Coach Chris Zambri announced today.

    Calvin-Smith preps at Harvard-Westlake School and has been a regular at or near the top of the scoreboard of recent Toyota Tour Cup and AJGA events.

    "We are proud to welcome Owen to the Trojan Family," Zambri said. "Owen has shown steady improvement as a golfer and caught our eye with his consistently high finishes in junior events. We are looking forward to his arrival this Fall. Owen hits the ball hard and that will benefit his game greatly. He is also an avid sports fan and a great student."

    Calvin-Smith tied for second at the Toyota Tour Cup Series at Olivas Lakes in February, which followed a 2016 November win at the Tour's Cypress Ridge event. In fact, He finished in the top 14 in all six of his 2106 Toyota Tour Cup events, three in the top 5, and had two more top 14s in 2015.

    He played at the 2016 California State Open, taking 45th in the 156-player professional event, was seventh in the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying event and sixth at the AJGA Junior at The Ranch.

    He was first at the 2015 USGA Junior Am qualifier, fourth in the 2015 CIF Southern Section Northern Division Individual Championship and fifth in the 2015 CIF Southern Section High School Championship.
