USC's 200y free relay finished fourth in a season-best and NCAA consideration effort to pace Troy's second day at the 2008 Pac-10 Men's Swimming Championships at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif., on Thursday (March 6).

Senior Richard Gosper, freshman Jake Grosser, senior Bryce Elser and sophomore Zoltan Povazsay took fourth in the 200y free relay in 1:19.51, good for an NCAA `B' cut. The time was 0.69 off of the school record Troy set last year at the NCAA Championships.

Gosper won the consolation final of the 50y free in 19.81 while Grosser was 14th overall (20.39). Grosser's prelim 20.16 was a season best and an NCAA consideration time.

Povazsay was 11th in the 500y free in an NCAA consideration 4:26.07 while junior Vanni Mangoni was 10th in the 200y IM in 1:46.35, a season best, improving on his NCAA consideration time with a mark almost good enough for the automatic standard. Mangoni just missed qualifying for the final and his second swim would've been good for fourth in finals.

Sophomore James Martin was 19th overall, but his second swim in the race (1:49.16) was good enough to garner an NCAA consideration mark.

USC is fifth overall (134). Stanford took over first (277) and is followed by Cal (258), Arizona (240), ASU (157), USC and Washington (77).

The meet continues Friday and Saturday, prelims at 11 a.m., finals at 6 p.m.
