CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. --  The No. 6 USC men's tennis team went down to the wire and pulled through again, snagging a 4-3 victory over No. 13 South Florida in the Round of 16 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. At the Boar's Head Sports Club, the Trojans had to fight out of an early hole, but kept the Bulls within reach. After freshman Jake DeVine pulled USC even at 3-3, sophomore Thibault Forget came through in the clutch and delivered the deciding blow with a three-set victory from court six to clinch the match for USC and keep the Trojans perfect at 6-0 overall this season. USC will now advance to the Quarterfinals tomorrow (Feb. 13) against TCU.

"Another scrappy win by our squad," USC head coach Peter Smith said. "South Florida is a great team and their coach Matt Hill is doing a great job building their program. We will have our work cut out for us tomorrow against a phenomenal TCU team."

USC had a tough go of it in doubles as the Bulls stole the first point of the day on decisive wins on courts two and three. In singles, USF maneuvered out farther ahead on a  6-2, 6-1 win from Peter Bertran over USC freshman Laurens Verboven. Down 2-0, the Trojans would rise to the challenge. Senior Max de Vroome lit the fuse with a smooth 6-1, 6-4 upset of USF's #26 Dominic Cotrone on court two. Then, it was #43 freshman Logan Smith who hauled the back even at 2-2 with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Justin Roberts at the No. 4 slot.

USF turned up the pressure again when #7 Roberto Cid held off USC's #33 Nick Crystal at the top spot with a 6-3, 6-2 decision that got the Bulls a 3-2 lead. The first responder in that tight spot was USC's #104 freshman Jake DeVine. He'd equalize the match on a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Sasha Gozun on court three to set up the clinching match on court six. There, USC's Thibault Forget had shrugged off a second-set slump and was powering his way to the finish line. Forget's fearless 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 win over Vadym Kalyuzhnyy punched USC's ticket to the quarterfinals with a 4-3 win over USF.

No. 4 seeded USC will now tangle with No. 5 seed TCU tomorrow (Feb. 13) at 6:30 p.m. ET in the quarterfinal round in Virginia.
