LOS ANGELES--The No. 4 USC men’s tennis team locked down their spot in the Round of 16 as they defeated Wisconsin 4-0 in the Second Round on the NCAA Tournament on Saturday (May 13) in Marks Stadium. This victory improves the USC's record to 27-5 overall in their 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
“Congratulations to Wisconsin on a great season,” said USC head coach Peter Smith. “There was a great energy from us today. We sensed the occasion and brought the right type of energy to the court. We are looking forward to the next step and the opportunity of playing the Bulldogs on their home courts.” This victory improves Smith's overall career record to an impressive 609-222.
The day kicked off with a win from USC’s Crystal/Verboven over Wisconsin’s Colton/Remy 6-3 on court two. Not long after, the Trojan duo of Bellamy/Jaede took down the Badger tandem of O’Hoisin/Zordani 6-2 on court three. This win not only nabbed the doubles point for USC, but it increased Bellamy/Jaede’s winning streak to 14-straight doubles matches.
USC entered singles play swinging with positive momentum and a 1-0 point advantage. Trojan Jack Jaede sprinted through his match against Badger Osgar O’Hoisin to win 6-0, 6-3 to put another point on the board for USC. The Trojans increased their lead to 3-0 as USC’s No. 88 Logan Smith closed out his match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Wisconsin’s Chema Carranza on court three.
As the crowd in Marks Stadium looked at the scoreboard, they began to shift their attention to court five where they saw the match getting ready to conclude. For the second day in a row, USC’s Thibault Forget clinched the match for Troy by defeating Badger Chase Colton 6-3, 6-4.
