Holt’s Win Streak Snaps In ITA National Indoors Round of 16

    Nov. 4, 2016

FLUSHING, N.Y. — USC freshman Brandon Holt stumbled for the first time in 12 matches with a loss today to the #8-ranked singles player in the land out at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships in New York.

Holt had tallied his 11th straight singles win as a Trojan yesterday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Today, he was up against the No. 3 seeded player in the singles draw and #8 player in the nation in the Round of 16. In that matchup, Holt took Wake Forest's top-10 Petros Chrysochos to three sets, pulling off a tight second set to force a third before taking a final 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 loss.

That wraps the fall stint of individual action for Holt, who now turns to face team action in the fall alongside his Trojan teammates.

While Holt has been engaged in action in New York, two of his USC teammates have been closing down their fall competition in Las Vegas at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic. Sophomore Jake DeVine rang up a pair of singles wins on opening day to advance to tomorrow’s semifinals in Flight 1. Freshman Riley Smith, meanwhile, took a three-set loss in the first round. Both DeVine and Smith will team up tomorrow in doubles action after a bye in the first round today.
