    Lucas Yoder had 15 kills and Alex Slaught added 13 kills to lead the No. 5-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 25-13, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21 win over unranked Cal Baptist in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Wednesday (Jan. 29) in USC's Galen Center.

    USC improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the MPSF, while the Lancers fell to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the MPSF.

    Micah Christenson had a match-best 12 digs and 3 aces for USC and Andy Benesh had 6 blocks.

    For Cal Baptist, Jonathan Tuttle had 14 kills, 10 digs and 6 blocks, while Johannes Brink had 8 kills and Amir Lugo-Rodriguez had 6 blocks.

    USC hit .274 to CBU's .140. The Trojans served 6 aces.

    USC dominated the first set from the start, quickly extending a 5-2 lead to 17-6 while hitting .667 and serving 3 aces. The second set was tight throughout until USC scored back-to-back points to go up 21-20 and held on for the win despite Cal Baptist's 5.5 blocks in the set. The Lancers built a 12-7 lead in the third set and the Trojans could never overcome the deficit as CBU hit .364. USC opened a 16-12 edge in the final set and never relinquished it.

    USC next hosts No. 4 BYU in an MPSF match on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 5 p.m. in the Galen Center as a prelude to the Grand Re-Opening of Heritage Hall gala later that evening.
