No. 3 Pepperdine Men's Volleyball Sweeps No. 8 USC|

The No. 3-ranked Pepperdine men's volleyball team--behind 12 kills each by Scott Rhein, Parker Kalmbach and Josh Taylor--swept No. 8 USC, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Thursday (April 2) in Malibu.
Pepperdine improved to 20-4 overall and 15-4 in the MPSF. The Trojans had a 3-match winning streak snapped to fall to 14-8 overall and 12-7 in the MPSF.
The Waves outhit USC, .469 to .263, and had more blocks (8.0 to 2.0) and aces (6 to 1). Josh Kirchner led USC with 11 kills while hitting .333, while Larry Tuileta had 7 kills, Alex Slaught came off the bench to add 7 kills (hitting .667) and Micah Christenson had a match-best 8 digs.
Rhein hit .500 and added 6 digs for the Waves, Kalmbach hit .435 and had 5 digs and Mitchell Penning had 5 blocks.
The first set was tied at 20-20 when Pepperdine scored the set's final 5 points despite USC hitting .391. The Waves got off to a quick 4-1 start in the second set and steadily pulled away while hitting .586. It was 10-10 in the third set before Pepperdine scored the next 2 points and then started to open up a lead that USC could never overcome (the Waves hit .464).
USC next goes to No. 14 Stanford for an MPSF match on Saturday (April 4). The 7:30 p.m. match will be shown live on Pac-12 Networks.
