No. 14 UC Irvine Men's Volleyball Sweeps USC.|

Michael Saeta had 14 kills while hitting .667 and Thomas Hodges added 10 kills to lead the No. 14-ranked UC Irvine men’s volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 sweep over USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Sunday (April 3) in USC’s Galen Center.
UCI improved to 9-18 on the season and 6-14 in the MPSF. USC fell to 7-17 overall and 5-15 in the MPSF. The loss eliminated the Trojans from a possible berth in the upcoming 8-team MPSF Tournament.
Kirchner led USC with 7 kills while hitting .417 and Lucas Yoder added 6 kills and 3 blocks.
Marty Ross had a match-high 7 blocks for UCI.
The Anteaters hit .515 overall, an opponent season high against the Trojans. UCI also had 20 digs and 8.0 blocks. USC hit .231 with 6.0 blocks, but Troy had just 6 digs.
UC Irvine went on a 3-0 run to open up an 18-15 lead in the first set, all the margin it needed as it hit .368. The Anteaters built a 6-3 lead in the second set and steadily increased it while hitting a blazing .682 (to USC’s .125) and getting 11 digs and 4.0 blocks. The third set seesawed, with USC trailing by 3 points at 10-7 and then going up 14-12 before UCI tied it at 15-15 and then the teams exchanged points until the Anteaters scored the match’s final 3 points (UCI hit .480 in the set).
USC concludes its season next week with a pair of MPSF road matches at No. 3 BYU on Friday (April 8) and Saturday (April 9).
