March 31, 2015
USC sophomore middle blocker Andy Benesh was named MPSF Player of the Week for his performances in Troy's comeback 5-set victories last week against UC Santa Barbara and UCLA.
He helped the Trojans clinch a berth in the MPSF tournament with the pair of victories, which gave USC a program-record 7 wins in 5-set matches in 2015.
Benesh hit .531 with 29 kills in both matches. Against No. 7 UC Santa Barbara (USC lost the first 2 sets), he had 16 kills and 6 digs (both career bests) while hitting a team-best .483 (2 errors on 29 attempts) and he added 3 blocks. The next night against No. 12 UCLA, Benesh had 13 kills (hitting .600, with just 1 error on 20 swings) and 2 more blocks.
On the year, the 2014 Freshman All-American first teamer is hitting .390 and is averaging 1.62 kills and 0.86 blocks per set for the No. 8-ranked Trojans.
