Lucas Yoder Named To 2017 AVCA All-American Second Team

    Senior outside hitter Lucas Yoder was named to the 2017 AVCA All-American second team, while senior middle blocker Andy Benesh made AVCA All-American honorable mention.

    Yoder joins his late father, Dave, who also earned All-American second team notice in 1987 while an outside hitter at USC.

    Lucas Yoder, who also made the 2017 All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation first team, currently leads the nation in kills (4.85) and points (5.22). The 3-year starter had 359 kills, 96 digs, 25 blocks and 13 aces in 2017. In his career, he had 1,032 kills, 307 digs, 91 blocks and 32 aces.

    Benesh, a 4-year starter and USC’s 2017 captain, currently is fifth nationally in hitting percentage (.429) and 13th in blocks (1.06). This season, he had 199 kills, 110 blocks, 49 digs and 24 aces. In his career, he hitting .415 and had 658 kills, 346 blocks, 181 digs and 43 aces.

    Yoder and Benesh helped the 2017 Trojans double their win total from the previous year (Troy was 14-14 overall this yuear) and earn a berth in the MPSF Tournament after a year’s hiatus.
