U.S. Men's Volleyball Team, Featuring Micah Christenson, Loses To Italy In Olympics Group Play

    The U.S. men’s volleyball team, with ex-USC All-Americans Micah Christenson and Murphy Troy on the roster, dropped its second straight match in Olympic Group Play, falling on Tuesday (Aug. 9) to Italy, 28-26, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23.

    Christenson had 45 assists as the starting setter, but Troy did not see action.

    The U.S. is currently fifth in the FIVB world rankings and Italy is fourth.

    Next up for the U.S. is a Group Play match on Thursday (Aug. 11) at 6:30 p.m. PT against host Brazil, the world’s top-ranked squad. The match can be viewed via live stream on NBCOlympics.com .

    The U.S., which was swept by No. 12 Canada on Sunday to open its Olympic competition, also has remaining Group Play matches against No. 11 France and No. 26 Mexico. Four teams from each of the 2 Groups will advance to the Olympic quarterfinals.
