Christenson Helps U.S. Sweep No. 2 Poland To Advance To Rio Olympics Semifinals

    Ex-USC All-American setter Micah Christenson had 35 assists to help propel the No. 5-ranked U.S. men’s volleyball team to a semifinal berth in the Rio Olympics with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 quarterfinal sweep over No. 2 Poland on Wednesday (Aug. 17). It was the U.S. team's fourth straight win in Rio.

    The U.S now will face the winner of today’s quarterfinal match between No. 4 Italy and No. 10 Iran in Friday’s semi at 9 a.m. PT. That match can be viewed via live stream on .

    After starting off the Rio Games with a pair of losses (to No. 12 Canada in 3 sets and No. 4 Italy in 4 sets), the U.S. squad won its final 3 Group Play contests, beating No. 1 Brazil in 4 sets, No. 11 France in 4 sets and No. 26 Mexico in 3 sets to advance to a quarterfinal berth.

    Christenson, the starting setter for the U.S. throughout these Olympics, also had a kill and an ace in the Poland match. Fellow Trojan All-American Murphy Troy did not see action against Poland.
