Trojans Set Up For FINA World Cup Competition|
Aug. 18, 2014
A blend of veteran and new Trojan talent will team up in international waters this week, representing their respective countries for competition at the FINA World Cup in Kazakhstan. Australia and the United States both have Trojans on their rosters for the tournament, each pairing NCAA champions with USC newcomers as they vie for medals in the city of Almaty from Aug. 19-24.
USC grad and five-time NCAA champion Michael Rosenthal has worked his way in as a key player for the United States since finishing off his Trojan career as the 2012 NCAA Tournament MVP. The All-American will team up with incoming freshman goalie McQuin Baron to further Team USA's cause. Baron recently moved into the U.S. National Team ranks and has proven a force for the USA as he also preps to take over the cage for USC this season.
Baron happens to be following in the footsteps of another USC goalie also engaged in action in Kazakhstan this week -- Australia's James Clark. A 2012 Olympian, Clark manned the cage for the Trojans' past two NCAA Championships, earning All-American honors along the way. Clark, too, has a young Trojan by his side for the FINA World Cup. His Australian teammate Lachlan Edwards is due to begin his freshman season with the Trojans this month as a standout two-meter man.
