Oct. 17, 2016
Junior Blake Edwards was a perfect 5-for-5 shooting against No. 7 UC Santa Barbara, and his fifth goal of the game also marked his 100th career goal as a Trojan. For his high-powered performance and milestone achievement, Edwards has picked up his first MPSF Player of the Week award.
All five Edwards goals came in the first half of play, with three straight goals coming in a five-goal scoring rally by the Trojans to turn a tied game into a 9-4 USC advantage. His fifth goal was scored in the final second of the first half, lifting USC ahead 11-5 and registering Edwards’ 100th career goal. The Trojans improved to 15-1 overall with the eventual 16-6 win over the Gauchos. Edwards stands out as USC’s top scorer on the year with 32 goals to date.
Edwards and the Trojans line up for a trip to Long Beach this week, facing the 49ers in a 1 p.m. nonconference bout on Saturday (Oct. 22) in an effort to extend USC’s seven-game win streak.
