McQuin Baron Snags MPSF Player of the Week Honors|
Nov. 15, 2016
Junior goalie McQuin Baron hauled in nine saves for the Trojans to anchor a key 8-7 win over top-ranked rival UCLA. He’s been named the MPSF Player of the Week for his efforts, marking the third such selection of his career and his first this season.
USC's No. 2 all-time career saves leader, Baron opened the game with three saves before UCLA would open scoring with a 5-meter penalty conversion. He’d steadily fend off the Bruins in key moments throughout the game, including some big plays in the fourth period as USC fought back into the lead. His power play save was followed by a clutch steal from Baron. And after USC went up 8-7 in the final minute, one last save from Baron secured victory for the Trojans. USC improved to 20-1 overall with the win, and will now take a 12-game win streak and the top seed into the coming MPSF Tournament.
Baron and the top-seeded Trojans open the MPSF Tournament with a 3 p.m. clash against No. 4 seeded Stanford on Friday (Nov. 18) in Westwood. That evening, USC faces MPSF newcomer Penn State Behrend at 6 p.m. Two wins will ensure a trip to the MPSF championship bout for the Trojans, which is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 20), preceded by the third-place game a 11 a.m.
