USC Locks In For 11th Straight Trip To NCAA Tournament|
Nov. 22, 2015
The USC men's water polo team has already made a historic 10 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament title match. Now, the Trojans have a chance to expand that streak out to 11, thanks to an at-large berth to the 2015 NCAA Tournament freshly inked on the USC schedule. With a 20-6 overall record and a third-place finish at the MPSF Tournament, USC has secured its 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA tourney. During that run, USC has gathered in seven national championships, winning in 2005 and then posting a run of six straight crowns from 2008-2013.
For this 2015 NCAA Tournament, USC will compete in a play-in game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m. PT on Dec. 3 at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. A win there would put the Trojans back in the NCAA semifinals for a shot at a return trip to the title match. This year, top-seeded UCLA will be host of the 2015 NCAA tourney, which will run Dec. 5-6 at the Bruins' Spieker Aquatic Center.
USC has earned one of two at-large berths into the 2015 NCAA Tournament. No. 2 seed California (23-6) -- MPSF Tournament finalist and the other recipient of an at-large berth -- will await the winner of the USC-Claremont play-in game for the Dec. 5 semifinal at 6 p.m. in Westwood. In the other play-in game, Princeton (22-4) will face UC San Diego (14-13) also on Dec. 2. Both are winners of their respective conference tournaments. Earning the top seed this year is UCLA (28-0), which won the MPSF Tournament for an automatic bid. The Bruins will face either Princeton or UC San Diego in the other semifinal match on Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. The 2015 NCAA Championship game is slated for 6:12 p.m. on Dec. 6, preceded by a 4 p.m. third-place game.
