Sophomores Belen Mozo and Stefanie Endstrasser each carded 3-under 69s to guide the No. 3 USC women's golf team into first place after the opening round of the 2008 UCF Challenge at RedTail G.C. in Sorrento, Fla., on Sunday (March 9).

USC combined for a 7-under 281, one stroke ahead of second-place and top-ranked Duke (282). Pepperdine (285) and No. 2 UCLA (288) aren't far behind.

Troy is after its sixth straight top 3 finish, its fifth top 2 finish and its second title of the season.

Mozo birdied a third of her holes on Sunday and was 5-under before a double bogey on 17 dropped her back to 3-under. Endstrasser had four birdies on the day. Both are tied for fourth, four strokes back of leader Alison Whitaker of Duke (65).

Senior Paola Moreno turned in a 2-under 70 to tie for ninth. She was 4-under on the front. Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel and freshman Lizette Salas are tied for 32nd after each finished with a 1-over 73.

Play continues Monday and Tuesday.
