Junior Doris Chen tied for 11th at 1-over 73 to pace the No. 1 USC women's golf team during its first post-spring break round as the Trojans finished sixth after 18 holes at the SDSU Farms Invitational at the Farms C.C. in Rancho Sante Fe., Calif., on Monday (March 24).

USC, winners of six of its seven events this season, dug itself a hole with a combined 10-over 298, 13 back of first-place and second-ranked UCLA, the only team to beat Troy this season. Stanford is second at 2-over 290 while host San Diego State is third at 4-over 292 in the 17-team tournament.

The Trojans' highest finisher was actually freshman Gabriella Then, who tied for seventh at par, but she is playing as an individual entry and did not count toward USC's team score.

Chen was even going out with a birdie on 1 and a bogey on 3 and came home with two bogeys and a birdie for her 73.

Sophomore Kyung Kim and freshman Karen Chung tied for 20th at 2-over 74 while sophomore Annie Park tied for 41st at 5-over 77 and senior Sophia Popov tied for 70th with an uncharacteristic 10-over 82.

Kim was 1-over on both 9s today with a bogey on each while Chung had a roller coaster of a round with five birdies against seven bogeys. Park was actually even through 16 holes before finishing with double and triple bogeys. Popov had three birdies in an otherwise forgettable round.

Action continues Tuesday at 8:10 a.m. USC's first player tees off at 8:54 a.m.
