No. 1 USC Advances To Liz Murphey Classic Championship Bracket

    April 1, 2016

Freshman Robynn Ree fired a 1-under 71 while sophomore Amy Lee carded a par 72 as the No. 1 USC women’s golf team finished fourth in the qualifying stroke play round to open the Liz Murphey Classic on Friday (April 1) and advance to the eight-team match play championship bracket at the University of Georgia G.C. in Athens, Ga.

The Trojans combined for a 4-over 292, six off the lead. USC will square off against No. 4 Northwestern in the quarterfinal round Saturday. The Wildcats were fifth today at 6-over. Should the Trojans win, they would play the winner of the UCLA-Kent State match (or play the loser if they lose). The Bruins finished first today. USC will play its final match on Sunday.

Ree led all Trojans thanks to a five-birdie round that included two on 15 and 16. Lee got off to a slow start, 4-over through 7, but birdied four of her next six holes to get to even and sunk pars on the final five holes.

Junior Tiffany Chan was also 4-over through 7 before a birdie on 9. She closed with a 1-under back 9 that included an eagle on the par 5 18th hole.

Senior Kyung Kim and junior Gabriella Then tied for 29th at 3-over. Kim was 3-over going out and even coming home while Then was 1-over on the front, 2-over on the back.
