Ree Wins Nanea Pac-12 Preview Title At 6-Under|
Oct. 25, 2016
The Trojans couldn’t field a team this week at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview with over half the roster playing in the LPGA’s Q School, but sophomore Robynn Ree was still able to add to USC’s growing trophy collection by winning the individual title at 6-under 213 on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at the Nanea G.C. in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
Ree, one of three Trojans who played individually yesterday and today, began the day tied for first at 3-under and turned in another strong outing for her second collegiate win, outlasting the Pac-12 field.
With a start on 11, she was even for the round when she birdied 18 to join the lead pack at 4-under. Birdies on 3 and 6 moved her out in front alone at 6-under, where was able to finish and hold off second-place Mariel Galdiano of UCLA (4-under) and Stanford’s Albane Valenzuela (3-under).
The win marked Ree’s fourth straight top 17 finish this fall, two in the top 10.
Freshman Allisen Corpuz, in a Hawaii homecoming, albeit on a neighboring island, tied for 13th at 3-over 222 (70-79-73) for her second top 20 finish the fall.
Senior Elizabeth Doty rounded out USC’s three-woman contingent in Hawaii, finishing 49th at 18-over 237 (79-79-79).
USC played with seniors Victoria Morgan, Karen Chung, Tiffany Chan and Gabriella Then, who recently finished the second stage of the LPGA’s Q school, with Chan and Chung advancing to the third and final stage.
USC is now off until the spring season begins Feb. 12-14 at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes (Calif) G.C.
