No. 1 USC Selected As Top Seed In NCAA West Regional

    The No. 1 USC women's golf team, the defending NCAA champion and winner of a school-record eight events this season, was selected as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West regional the NCAA announced on Monday (April 28).

    The Trojans, who have won an NCAA best nine regionals and whose active streak of eight consecutive NCAA top 5 finishes leads the country, will look for its fifth consecutive regional victory at Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia (Wash.) Resort.

    NCAA East, Central and West Regionals, each made up of 24 teams, will be conducted May 8-10 to determine the championship final field. The top eight teams plus two individuals from each field will advance to the championship round, scheduled for May 20-23 at the Tulsa (Okla.) C.C. A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals.

    In addition to USC and host Washington, the NCAA West Regional also includes Arizona State, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, Northwestern, Michigan State, Iowa State, GRU-Augusta, Oregon, Texas A&M, UC Davis, Denver, San Diego State, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Chattanooga, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Portland State and Detroit.

    The Pac-12 boasts nine teams selected for the NCAAs, including four in the West (USC, Washington, Arizona State and Oregon), four in the Central (UCLA, Arizona, California and Colorado) and one in the East (Pac-12 champion Stanford).

    The Trojans have won an NCAA-best nine regional titles, including four in a row and in seven of the past eight seasons. The past seven came in 2006 (Central), 2007 (Central), 2008 (West), 2010 (Central), 2011 (West), 2012 (Central) and 2013 (West). USC is looking to advance out of the NCAA Regional for the 17th year in a row in its 23rd consecutive NCAA appearance (the last 17 under 18th-year Head Coach Andrea Gaston).
