Gabriella Then, Robynn Ree Qualify For U.S. Amateur

    Rising senior Gabriella Then and rising sophomore Robynn Ree earned spots in the 2016 U.S. Amateur after finishing first and second, respectively, at the qualifier at Friendly Hills C.C. in Whittier, Calif., on Tuesday (June 28).

    Then fired a 70 to take medalist honors while Ree finished alone in second with a 71.

    The event is scheduled for Aug. 1-7 at the Rolling Hill G.C. in Springfield, Pa. Click here for the viewing schedule.

    The last Trojan to win the event was Jennifer Song, who defeated Jennifer Johnson, 3&1, in the 2009 final. In 2002, USC’s Becky Lucidi downed Brandi Jackson, 3&2, for the title, while another LPGA veteran, Jill McGIll, won it in 1993 with a 1up win over Sarah LeBrun. McGill was runner-up in 1994.

    Ree and USC incoming freshmen Allisen Corpuz will compete as amateurs in the U.S. Women’s Open, July 7-10, at the CordeValle G.C. in San Martin, Calif.

    Fox Sports 1 will carry the event from 12-5 p.m. PT July 7-8 while FOX will carry it from 12-4 p.m. PT on July 9-10.
