Trojan Lacrosse Falls to No. 15 Stanford

    STANFORD, Calif. - The USC women's lacrosse team (11-4, 7-1 MPSF) dropped a 12-6 decision to No. 15 Stanford (11-2, 7-0) at Cagan Stadium on Sunday, April 19. The Women of Troy had their four-game winning streak snapped and absorbed their first conference loss of the season.

    The Cardinal won the draw-control game, 11-9, and out-shot the Trojans, 39-23. Off the bench, Caroline Cordrey scored a pair of goals for USC. Sophomore attackers Michaela Michael and Cynthia Del Core, junior midfielder Amanda Johansen, and junior attacker Caroline de Lyra scored one goal each. Sophomore attacker Kylie Drexel had three assists. In goal, freshman Gussie Johns had a career-high 14 saves in the loss.

    Stanford got four goals each from Hannah Farr and Lucy Dikeou and got 14 saves from goalie Allie DaCar. The Cardinal caused six of USC's nine turnovers and picked up 18 ground balls including five by DaCar.

    It took seven minutes, but the Trojans struck first with a goal from de Lyra. The Cardinal then scored the next four and then took a 6-2 lead into the half despite another USC goal by Michael.

    The Trojans scored three of the next five goals to pull withint three, 8-5, with 22 minutes left in the game, but the Cardinal tightened up on defense and reeled off another 4-0 scoring run to seal a 12-6 victory.

    USC concludes the regular season with a game at San Diego State (9-6, 5-3 MPSF) at Aztec Lacrose Field on Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. PT, in San Diego, Calif.
