LOS ANGELES - The USC women's lacrosse team was picked to finish third in a poll of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation coaches announced on Thursday, Jan. 29. The Women of Troy received 65 points in the poll and were tabbed at third behind defending conference champion Denver (79 points) which had seven first-place votes and Stanford (75 points) which received the other three first-place votes.

The Trojans were also picked to finish third in 2014 and indeed completed the season tied for third with a 6-3 mark in MPSF games. USC was 9-9 overall in its second year of competition. The Trojans earned a spot in the MPSF tournament quarterfinals where they were defeated by Oregon, 7-6. In the program's first year, the coaches picked USC to finish seventh, but the Women of Troy exceeded expectations with a 5-3 record to claim fourth place and a spot in the MPSF tournament.

The 2015 coaches poll deviates little from 2014's final league standings. The Pioneers were chosen to win their third straight regular-season crown while Stanford was picked to finish second once again. At the end of last season, USC was tied for third with Oregon and Colorado. The Ducks received 53 points and were picked fourth while Colorado had 46 points for fifth place in the preseason poll.

San Diego State was picked to finish where it finished last year at sixth place (42 points) while California (39), UC Davis (25), Fresno State (16), and Saint Mary's College (10) rounded out the coaches' pecking order. Cal and Davis were tied for seventh a year ago, while the Bulldogs and Gaels were each ninth and 10th respectively at the end of last season.

USC opens the season on Feb. 7 with a home match against seven-time NCAA champion Northwestern at the LA Memorial Coliseum. The Trojans will appear in three Pac-12 Networks broadcast games this spring, including the season's final home match against Denver on April 12. The Women of Troy will also play before live television audiences in road games at Oregon (April 3) and at Stanford (April 19). All of USC's home games (except for the Denver game) will be streamed live on the USC Pac-12 Networks web portal. Stream links can be found on the team's web schedule.
