LOS ANGELES -- USC women's lacrosse junior attacker Michaela Michael was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 8-14. It is Michael's second-career offensive weekly award and her third overall weekly honor including a Rookie of the Week selection in 2014. The selection marks the 13th overall certificate for the USC program.
Colorado sophomore midfielder Sarah Brown was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week and Kendra Lanuza of Denver received the Rookie of the Week award.
Michael (Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo School) was instrumental in the Trojans' resounding 21-2 season-opening victory over Stetson. She led all players with six goals and seven points (one assist) to go with 12 draw controls. It was Michael's second-career game with six goals. She originally set her career mark with six goals against Colorado in 2015. Her 12 draws won are the second most in a single game for her and ties the third-best mark in league history. She holds the MPSF single-game record with 15 draws controlled (vs. Fresno State, Feb. 24, 2015).
19th-ranked USC (1-0) is set to face No. 5 Duke (2-1) in a special east-meets-west non-conference matchup this weekend. The Trojans and the Blue Devils will draw at 7 p.m. PT on Saturday, Feb. 20, from Lebard Stadium in Costa Mesa, Calif. The game is presented by the Orange County Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse with tickets still available through www.OCD1lacrosse.com. The contest is also a rematch of the Trojans' final contest of 2015 in which they were eliminated from the NCAA tournament.
