LOS ANGELES - USC women's lacrosse sophomore attacker Kylie Drexel (Davis, Calif./Davis HS) and freshman goalie Gussie Johns (Washington, D.C./St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School) were named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively on Monday, March 16. Oregon's Ali Scharkey was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week.

Drexel and Johns have each been instrumental in USC's current program-record five-game winning streak. Last week, the Trojans completed wins over Liberty (20-6), California (18-5), and Marquette (11-4), and out-scored opponents, 49-15.

Against the Flames, Drexel had two goals, caused one turnover and picked up a pair of ground balls. In a performance against the Bears, she had four points (2g, 2a) to go with two ground balls and a draw control but was most disruptive in the Cal transition game where she was responsible for four caused turnovers. It was also her goal that went into the books as the game-winner. It was against the Eagles that Drexel broke out for a career day with seven points on a career-high five goals with two assists. She was 3-for-3 from the eight-meter arc and picked up a ground ball in the effort. In all, Drexel finished the three games with 13 points (9g, 4a) with five caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Johns won her fifth straight game and surrendered just 5.63 goals per game in the stretch. She had four saves against Liberty and came up with a career-high seven stops against the Golden Eagles. Johns also had three ground balls against the Flames and three more in her game with Marquette. She caused a turnover in the Liberty game and caused two against the Golden Eagles. In all, she finished with six ground balls and three caused turnovers in the three victories.

Drexel receives the program's second offensive weekly award (Caroline de Lyra, Feb. 9, 2015) and pushes the Trojans' total for offensive/defensive player of the week certificates to five all-time. Johns is USC's first goalie to win Rookie of the Week honors. She receives the fifth such award and joins the three won by junior midfielder Amanda Johansen in 2013 and one by sophomore attacker Michaela Michael in 2014.

USC concludes its five-game home stand at McAlister Field on Friday (March 20) when Saint Mary's College (0-5, 0-2 MPSF) visits for a game at 3 p.m. PT.
