LOS ANGELES -- USC senior attacker Michaela Michael (Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo School) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth consecutive week following her performance for the week of April 3-9, the league announced on Monday, April 10. UC Davis sophomore midfielder Taylor Cuenin was chosen for the defensive award for the second straight week and Fresno State freshman midfielder Tiffiny Wallace was named Rookie of the Week.
It is Michael's ninth offensive honor and 10th overall (one rookie award in 2014). The 10 awards are the most by any Trojan in program history and her four awards this season tie the previous program record of four; a record she set herself in 2016. In two games, Michael scored 13 goals, grabbed 17 draw controls, and added two assists, one ground ball, and a caused turnover to help the Trojans outscore opponents, 32-10. She notched her program-record 35th and 36th career hat tricks. In a 15-3 win over San Diego State, Michael scored seven goals to match her career high and this season's MPSF single-game high among all players in the league.
Michael scored six or more goals in the same game for the sixth and seventh times in her career and has now scored at least four goals in eight of USC's last nine games. In a 17-7 victory over Oregon, Michael secured 11 draw controls to mark the eighth time in her career that she has reached double digits in draw controls in the same game. Her 93 total draw controls this season rank fourth in league single-season history. During the week, she moved into second place in MPSF history for career goals (209) and into fourth place for career points (273).
Women of Troy have now won MPSF weekly honors 31 times in program history with 13 offensive awards, 10 defensive awards, and eight rookie of the week honorees. This season, Trojans have been tabbed for eight weekly honors.
The ninth-ranked Women of Troy (11-3, 5-0 MPSF) are back in action on Friday, April 14, as host to sixth-ranked Colorado (12-1, 4-0 MPSF) at the LA Memorial Coliseum. The teams will draw at 5 p.m. PT in a live broadcast on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Mountain.
