LOS ANGELES - USC women's lacrosse sophomore defender Courtney Tarleton was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's (MPSF) Defensive Player of the Week for the week of April 21-27, the conference announced on Monday, April 28. It is the second straight week that a member of the Women of Troy has been chosen for defensive league honors. Tarleton becomes the second lacrosse Trojan ever to win the MPSF defensive player of the week award. USC players have been named MPSF Rookie of the Week on four occasions previously.

Tarleton (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood HS) set a new USC single-game record with eight ground balls in the Trojans' game against Northwestern. USC fell, 12-7, to the fifth-ranked Wildcats in a historic game at Wrigley Field. She also picked up two ground balls against Marquette to give her 10 over the course of two games. The Trojans split their road trip with an 11-5 win over the Eagles. Tarleton also had two caused turnovers over the weekend. She leads USC with 19 caused turnovers and is second with 31 ground balls this season.

The Trojans (9-8, 6-3 MPSF) finished in a tie for third place in the MPSF with Colorado and Oregon. Because both of those teams beat the Trojans head-to-head, USC receives the fifth seed in the upcoming MPSF tournament. USC will get a chance at revenge on the Ducks when they face each other in the 7 p.m. MT quarterfinal on Thursday, May 1. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Denver in a 4 p.m. MT game on Friday, May 2. The championship game is set for Sunday, May 4, at 11 a.m. MT. All games will be played at host Denver's Peter Barton Stadium in Denver, Colo. Please visit and for more information.
