Women of Troy Travel to Las Vegas

    LOS ANGELES --The Women of Troy are set to open the rowing season on Saturday (March 4) as they travel to Henderson, Nev. to compete in the first annual Lake Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational. The regatta, hosted by the Las Vegas Rowing Club, will take place on Saturday morning and afternoon.

    USC will be competing against the Washington Huskies in each of women’s collegiate races throughout the day. There will be two separate waves with the 2000m events being held in the morning and sprints taking place in the afternoon.

    In the 2000m portion of the regatta, the Trojans will race in the Varsity 4+ at 9:20 a.m., the JV 8+ at 10 a.m. and the Varsity 8+ at 10:40 a.m. The sprints will begin at 2:40 p.m. with the Varsity 4+ hitting the water first, followed by the JV 8+ at 3 p.m. and the Varsity 8+ at 3:20 p.m.

    The evening before the regatta (March 3), the USC women’s rowing team will be christening the Varsity 8 shell. The boat will be christened the “Stella Maris” as named by Trojan rowing donor and Las Vegas native Thomas “TJ” Matthews and his family.
