No. 13 USC Rowing to Compete at the San Diego Crew Classic

    March 30, 2017

LOS ANGELES-- The 13th ranked USC women’s rowing team will travel to San Diego to hit the waters of Mission Bay in the 44th annual San Diego Crew Classic regatta this weekend (April 1-2).

The Women of Troy have been historically successful in this regatta. From 2011-15, USC’s varsity eight won five-straight grand finals, receiving the prestigious Jessop-Whittier Cup. Last year, after facing a long delay due to fog and then heavy winds and strong wakes throughout the race, USC placed third overall in the grand final behind California and Texas.

USC’s varsity eight will attempt to reclaim their title as they will be the first racing team of the weekend participating in the Women’s Collegiate V8+ Heat B at 8:40 a.m. The Trojans will take on No. 15 Washington State, San Diego, and British Columbia as they battle to secure placement in Sunday’s grand final.

The Trojan varsity four will take the water next in the Women’s Collegiate V4+ Heat B at 9:04 a.m. against UCLA, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s and Santa Clara.

At 9:52 a.m., USC will race in the Women’s Collegiate 2V8+ event in Heat B versus UCLA, Sacramento State, Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara.

USC’s finishes in these three preliminary heats will determine whether the Women of Troy will compete in either the grand or petite finals on Sunday.

The Trojans will be entering a boat in the Women’s Open division and race at 12:20 p.m. against Stanford, Washington State, San Diego, Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara and Colorado, in which all competitors will advance to Sunday’s final at 1:28 p.m. (April 2).

Finally, USC will participate in the Women’s Collegiate 4+ B Final Only race on Sunday (April 2) at 12:04 p.m. versus UCLA, Sacramento State, Tennessee, San Diego State, Southern Methodist and UC Santa Barbara.
