LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked USC women's rowing team will put its speed up against some of the top crews in the country as the Women of Troy head to Mission Bay to take part in the 41st San Diego Crew Classic this weekend (Saturday-Sunday, April 5-6). The Trojans go into the regatta with targets their backs as defenders of all three of the NCAA varsity division trophies.

Last year, USC claimed its third consecutive win for the prestigious Jessop-Whitter Cup; the program's fourth overall. The Trojans' second varsity eight crossed its finish line with open water to claim the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy, and the varsity four won the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup.

The Women of Troy get started on Saturday morning as the varsity eight races out of lane one in the first heat of the women's collegiate invitational set for 8:50 a.m. PT. The Trojans will face crews from No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 14 Washington State, Texas, and Miami. In the second heat, No. 6 Washington sits in lane one followed by No. 12 UCLA, Gonzaga, San Diego, and Grand Valley.

The varsity four will race in Heat B of the women's collegiate 4+. The Trojans hold lane one followed by UCLA, Iowa, Gonzaga, Texas, Sacramento State, and San Diego State. In Heat A, California will race out of lane one with Washington State, San Diego, Kansas State, Tulsa, Victoria, and Old Dominion rounding out the heat.

USC's 2V8 will race in the first of three heats in the women's collegiate 2V division. The Women of Troy again hold lane one and will face Wisconsin, Iowa, Miami, and Sacramento State. In Heat B, California, Washington State, Gonzaga, Kansas State, Tulsa, and Loyola; and in Heat C, Washington, UCLA, San Diego, Texas, San Diego State, and Saint Mary's College.

The Trojans' novice eight will race in Heat A out of lane two against California, Washington State, Sacramento State, and British Columbia at 11:00 a.m. In the other novice heat, UCLA, Washington, Texas, San Diego, and Santa Barbara will race. If USC advances to the novice grand final, it will race again on Sunday at 12:10 p.m. The petite final is set for Saturday afternoon at 4:20 p.m.

USC will boat a second varsity four for a single race set for Sunday at 11:40 a.m. The Trojans will take on Gonzaga, Old Dominion, San Diego State, UCLA and San Diego, and race out of lane six.

Sunday's schedule is dependent upon USC's finishes in preliminary heats. For a complete schedule and race results, please visit CrewClassic.org. Go to USCTrojans.com for a complete 2014 schedule of races for the Women of Troy.
