LOS ANGELES - The 10th-ranked USC women's rowing team will face No. 14 UCLA in the annual crosstown rivalry rowing dual on Saturday, April 11, at Ballona Creek in Marina Del Ray, Calif. The Women of Troy hold an undefeated 13-0 mark in the history of the dual and USC's varsity eight has never lost against the Bruins in the annual head-to-head race. In addition to the three NCAA varsity boats, each team will race a third varsity eight boat in this year's dual.
In a change from year's past, the teams will race in the afternoon as opposed to the morning. The teams are also scheduled to race from the west end of Ballona Creek to the east, which is different from past duals. Racing begins at 4:50 p.m. PT with the varsity four boats. The 2V8 will start at approximately 5:05 p.m. and is followed by the V8 at 5:20 p.m. The third varsity eights will race at 5:35 p.m. Scoring remains the same with a win in the varsity eight worth three (3) points, two (2) points for the second varsity eight, and one (1) point each for the third varsity eight and the varsity four. The first team to amass four of the seven available points is declared the dual victor.
Last year, USC earned a 4-3 win over the Bruins with victories by the varsity eight and the varsity four. UCLA won points with the 2V8 and the novice eight boats.
The Trojans are coming off a fifth straight victory for the prestigious Jessop-Whittier Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic where the USC V8 defeated the UCLA V8 among others in the grand final.
