LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked USC women's rowing team heads to Gold River, Calif., to take part in the 2014 Lake Natoma Invitational this weekend, April 12-13. The Women of Troy will face crews from No. 1-ranked California, No. 6 Brown, No. 7 Stanford, and No. 9 Notre Dame, as well as boats from Oklahoma and Sacramento State in a mid-season test. Other crews at the event, but not racing USC, include No. 20 San Diego and Kansas.

Sacramento State, the Sac State Aquatic Center, and the University of California host the Invitational, with sponsorship by Marriott of Rancho Cordova and Hyatt Place. The weekend will feature three racing sessions: Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday morning.

USC's first session on Saturday (April 12) will pit the Trojans against Notre Dame and Oklahoma. Varsity four races begin at 8 a.m. PT, followed by second varsity eight races at 8:30 a.m., and varsity eight races at 9 a.m. The Women of Troy will also boat a second varsity four for heats beginning at 9:30 a.m.

In the Saturday afternoon session, USC's novice eight will run the course in heats at approximately 3:30 p.m. Only Sac State, Cal, Kansas, Oklahoma, and USC will race in a novice event on the weekend.

The Trojans' varsity boats will go up against Stanford and Sacramento State in the Saturday-afternoon session. Varsity four races begin at 3:50 p.m., followed by second varsity eight races at 4:20 p.m., varsity eight races at 4:50 p.m., and a second varsity four petite and grand final set for 5:20 and 5:30 p.m.

The top boat in each heat of the morning 2V4 races will advance to the grand final, as well as the boat with the next fastest time. The remaining crews will be placed into the petite final. The top two novice boats in each heat will advance to the grand final. The remaining novice crews will participate in the petite final. Novice finals are set for 8 and 8:10 a.m. on Sunday.

On Sunday (April 13), USC varsity boats will race California and Brown. V4 boats will launch beginning at 8:20 a.m., followed by 2V8 at 8:50 a.m., and varsity eights at 9:20 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the final race at approximately 10:15 a.m.

During each session, each of the three groups racing will be independently scored based on the results of the races within their group. At the conclusion of each session, points will be used to determine a first, second, and third-place team from each group. In the event of a tie in the points total after all three races, a session winner is determined based on the results of the varsity eight race. A second set of points, which will be carried throughout the weekend, will be awarded based on a team's finish within their group during each session. At the conclusion of Sunday's races, an overall team winner will be declared based on these results.

The Pac-12 Networks will broadcast the Lake Natoma Invitational on a tape-delay basis. For up-to-date race results, please follow @NatomaInvite on Twitter. Results will be tweeted at the conclusion of each race. Go to for a complete 2014 schedule of races for the Women of Troy.
