LOS ANGELES -- The 2016 Trojans took to McAlister Field for the first time this year on Sunday, defeating Air Force 4-0 in an exhibition tune-up on Sunday afternoon.
K. Johnson started off the Trojan scoring after sitting out the 2015 campaign recovering from injury. She took a well-struck corner kick from Morgan Andrews, that bounced in front of the goal mouth, touched by Ally Prisock and then Johnson struck with the cheeky back heel in the 27th minute to put the Trojans on top.
Air Force was a tough side, hanging tough with the Trojans through the first half, only allowing the one score to the preseason No. 11 squad.
In the second half, the Trojans broke things open with three goals. Molen finished off a nice ball near post off a well-played ball up the right flank from Erika Okuma in the 60th minute.
The newcomers shined in the second half for the Trojans, highlighted by a fantastic 85th minute header finish from true freshman Ashleigh Plumptre. S. Johnson and Moriah Earley combined for the assist on the third goal of the match.
Rounding off the scoring was S. Johnson herself, taking a nice pass from Plumptre and finishing a tough shot far post from the left side to make it a 4-0 game.
S. Johnson and Plumptre led the way with three points apiece on the day.
In goal, the clean sheet was shared between all three of the Trojan goalkeeping stable. Sammy Jo Prudhomme started things out, giving way to junior Julia Murphy and freshman Kaylie Collins closed things out.
The Trojans are set to open up the season on Friday, Aug. 19 at Santa Clara.
