LOS ANGELES - No. 14 USC finished off three goals in the second half to defeat visiting Pacific 3-0 on Friday afternoon at McAlister Field.

"Though it wasn't our best performance, I am pleased we got out of it not only with a win, but a shutout. That was our main goal, so I have to be pleased with that," said head coach Keidane McAlpine.

The Women of Troy (5-0-1) had goals from Tamara Mejia, Kayla Mills and Alex Quincey in the second half as the team finally found the back of the net after holding the advantage in possession and tallying 14 shots to Pacific's (2-5) zero in the first half.

On the team's second half improvement, McAlpine said, "I am also pleased with the second half and the way we responded to not being as sharp in the first half. However, we must be a lot better moving forward to reach the goals we have set as a team."

Mejia's goal in the 47th minute broke the deadlock, as she took the ball down the left side, cut the ball back and buried it into the lower left corner for her first career goal.

Mills got her second goal in as many games to push the lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute, as she drove down the right side and delivered a perfect across-goal shot into the upper left corner.

In the 75th minute Quincey got in on the action, scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the season to put the Women of Troy up 3-0, as she found the back of the net with her head off a corner kick from Reilly Parker.

Goalkeeper Caroline Stanley kept the shutout alive in the 80th minute with two outstanding back-to-back saves, one being a kick save to keep the Tigers off the board. Stanley finished with four saves in the match, all coming in the second half, to collect her second shutout of the year.

Overall in the match the Women of Troy outshot the Tigers 24-4 and had 11 corner kicks to their three.

The Women of Troy are back in action on Sunday, this time heading out to UC Irvine for a 6 p.m. PT tilt at Anteater Recreation Field.
