Second-Half Goals by Fink and Freeman Lift Trojans to Victory Over Saint Mary's

    MORAGA, Calif. – Second-half goals from Jamie Fink and Mandy Freeman propelled the Trojans to a 2-0 victory at Saint Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.

    After dominating the run of play and outshooting the Gaels (5-3-2) 12-2 in the first half, the Trojans (5-3-1) broke through with two second-half goals.

    In the 52nd minute, Fink finished off an outstanding sequence with a volley finish into the upper left corner to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the year. Mandy Freeman served a ball into the box and Morgan Andrews directed her header directly to a waiting Fink who finished from 10 yards out.

    With the 1-0 lead, the Trojans continued to play in the Gaels’ defensive half, pushing for another goal. In the 67th minute, Freeman finished an outstanding solo effort, beating her defender on the left side and cued up a shot from 20 yards out, finishing top shelf in the upper right corner for her first goal of the year. The goal was her first career finish.

    Goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme made two saves, one in each period for her fourth clean sheet of the year.

    The Trojans dominated in every offensive category, outshooting the Gaels 24-2 and tallying seven corners to the Gaels’ one.

    The Trojans return home to open Pac-12 play on Saturday, September 26 for a 1 p.m. PT match against Oregon State.
