USC Freshman Mandy Freeman Lands All-Pac-12 First Team Honors

Mandy Freeman is a first-teamer in her first season as a Trojan!

    Nov. 12, 2013

USC defender Mandy Freeman is the first Trojan in four years to earn a spot on the all-conference first team with her selection to the top of the 2013 All-Pac-12 honor roll. Freeman is joined on this year's All-Pac-12 lists by sophomore midfielder Jamie Fink, who has earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, while fellow freshman Kayla Mills is paired with Freeman on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.

Mandy Freeman's incredible skill on the back line was glaringly obvious in her first season as a Trojan. Able to run down, deny and outright shut down opposing strikers, Freeman was a lock on defense for the Women of Troy. Her selection to the All-Pac-12 First Team marks this first first-team pick for a Trojan since 2009. What's more, Freeman stands out as the first USC freshman to be named a first-teamer since Amy Rodriguez in 2005. This season, Freeman started every one of USC's games and provided an assist in USC's season opener. She was named to the Minnesota Gold Classic All-Tournament Team, and was also selected CS360 National Freshman of the Week on October 15.

Scoring a spot on the All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention list is standout sophomore midfielder Jamie Fink. A Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honoree last year, Fink upped her game even more in 2013. She capped her season by recording the only goal allowed at home by conference champ UCLA, marking the sophomore's five goal of the year to go along with a pair of assists. She also provided two game-winning goals this year, scoring the winner against Florida Atlantic and most recently against Oregon State. She was named to the USD All-Tournament Team earlier this season.

Mandy Freeman's All-Pac-12 First Team status makes her a lock on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. There, she is in good company with fellow USC freshman Kayla Mills, who terrorized opposing defenses while Freeman shut down opponents at the other end. Mills scored four goals in her first season as a Trojan, including game-winners against San Diego State and most recently in an overtime victory over Oregon. What's more, Mills topped out with eight assists for the Women of Troy, marking the sixth-most single-season assist by a Trojan in program history. Mills, too, was named to the Minnesota Gold Classic All-Tournament Team earlier this year.
