No. 1 USC Takes Down No. 10 Tigers For 4-1 Win|

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (4-0) earned a 4-1 win over No. 10 Louisiana State (1-4) at the East Meets West Invitational hosted by UCLA at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Saturday, March 11. The Women of Troy extended their record winning streak to 34 consecutive duals and remained undefeated in 2017.
The Trojans got on the board first as seniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes knocked off their 77th consecutive opponent with a 21-10, 21-13 win over Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss at the top court. The senior duo's winning streak dates back to April 2, 2015. Moments later, USC went ahead, 2-0, when senior Sophie Bukovec and sophomore Abril Bustamante completed a 21-14, 21-12 win over Katie Lindelow and Olivia Powers at court three.
The Trojans clinched the match from court two where junior Terese Cannon and senior Nicolette Martin took a 21-16, 21-13 win over Emmy Allen and Ashley Allmer for the 3-0 USC lead. The Women of Troy tacked up a fourth point from court four as freshman Joy Dennis and sophomore Katrina Kernochan took down Cati Leak and Maddie Ligon, 21-19, 21-14.
In the only match to go three sets, juniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer dropped the first, 24-22, to Megan Davenport and Callan Molle, but came back to win, 21-17, in the second. The Trojans were down, 12-9, in the third, but fought back to tie things at 12 before the Tigers scored the final three points to take a 15-12 win and score one dual point for LSU.
USC heads to Hawai'i for spring break next week, only the Trojans will hardly have a break with seven matches on tap. The Women of Troy will face Nebraska and No. 2 Florida State on Thursday (March 16) at Queen's Beach, and then open play in the Outrigger Hawai'i Invitational on Friday (March 17) with duals against Nebraska and Utah. On Saturday (March 18), the Trojans will take on No. 8 Arizona, Florida State again, and host No. 5 Hawai'i in a three-dual day before returning home.
