TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 1-ranked USC women's sand volleyball team (12-0) defeated Arizona State (3-8) in a 5-0 sweep at the Pera Club on Saturday, March 28. The Women of Troy won their sixth dual match in five days and extended their school-record winning streak to 12 duals.
USC started the day with a win at court four where freshman Jenna Belton and sophomore Nicolette Martin teamed to defeat Whitney Follette and Halle Harker, 21-17, 21-16. Sophomore Sophie Bukovec and junior Alexa Strange went three sets to beat Jordy Checkal and Bethany Jorgensen, 21-18, 17-21, 15-8, at court two. Seniors Eve Ettinger and Meg Norton sealed the dual victory from court three on their 21-7, 21-12 win over Sydney Palmer and Kizzy Willey.
At the top court, sophomores Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes won 21-15, 21-12, over Bianca Arellano and Macey Gardner to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead. Freshman Jo Kremer and senior Bria Russ tied the bow on the 5-0 sweep with a 22-20, 21-17 win over Frances Giedraitis and Andi Lowrance at court five.
The Women of Troy are off until Thursday (April 2) when they host Loyola Marymount (1:30 p.m.) and Concordia (3 p.m.) in matches at Merle Norman Stadium. Both duals will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks with Holly McPeak and Anne Marie Anderson on the call.
