LOS ANGELES - The No. 1-ranked USC women's sand volleyball team (12-1) posted a pair of 5-0 sweeps to extend its program-best winning streak to 11 matches on Senior Day at Merle Norman Stadium, Thursday, April 3. The Women of Troy took out Loyola Marymount (5-7) and No. 6-ranked crosstown rival UCLA (6-5) to record their fourth straight 5-0 sweep; eighth overall this season. In fact, no Trojan pair has dropped a set in action since USC's win over Pepperdine on Tuesday, March 25.

In pre-match ceremonies, the Trojans honored seniors Mary Buckingham, Kirby Burnham, Brooke Fournier, Sam Hirschmann, and Natasa Siljkovic. USC Senior Woman Administrator Donna Heinel was on hand to present and honor the seniors and their parents along with head coach Anna Collier, assistant coach Andrew Fuller, and volunteer assistant coach Misty May-Treanor.

USC stayed perfect against the Lions (8-0) all-time in its first match of the day. The Trojans' freshman tandem of Paige Hines and Nicolette Martin got the ball rolling at court five where they dispatched of Ashley Maxfeldt and Anne Marie Taylor, 21-12, 21-19. Moments after court five finished, juniors Eve Ettinger and Bria Russ put USC up, 2-0, in the dual with a 21-13, 21-11 win over Caitlin DeWitt and Hannah Tedrow at court four.

The clinching point came from the top court where Burnham and freshman Sara Hughes completed a 21-18, 21-13 win over Litara Keil and Betsi Metter. The Trojans went up, 4-0, on the Lions with a win at court two where sophomore Alexa Strange and freshman Kelly Claes notched a 21-14, 21-16 win against Avery Bush and Kathleen Luft. Hirschmann and Siljkovic cleaned things up on court three where they got the hard-fought 21-18, 21-19 win against Taylor Akana and Rachelle Suaava for the 5-0 sweep.

In just the second meeting with the Bruins, USC gave no quarter to earn a second sweep of UCLA in the all-time series. The first point was scored from court four where Ettinger and Russ made short work of Skylar Dykstra and Jennie Frager for a 21-7, 21-12 win. The Trojans went up, 2-0, in the dual after Hines and Martin fought off their Bruin tandem of Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye for a 21-15, 22-20 win.

USC's top pair of Burnham and Hughes grabbed the clinching point yet again as they dispatched of UCLA's Jessyka Ngauamo and Kamila Tan, 21-11, 21-11, at center sand. The Trojans got their fourth point from Hirschmann and Siljkovic as the pair defeated Taylor Formico and Karsta Lowe, 21-19, 21-14, at court three. Claes and Strange needed to go the distance in their second set with Zoe Nightingale and Madie Smith but sealed the Trojans' 5-0 sweep with a 21-15, 23-21 win from court two.

In a neutral match between each of USC's duals, the Lions upended sixth-ranked UCLA, 4-1, on a 21-16, 23-21 win by Akana and Suaava on court three. The duo took out Formico and Lowe for the clinching point.

The Women of Troy will spend the rest of the season away from the comforts of Merle Norman Stadium and start with a short jaunt up the interstate to Bakersfield where they will face the Roadrunners (3-5) and San Jose State (0-5) at the CSUB Sand Volleyball Courts on Saturday, April 5. USC will take on Bakersfield at 9 a.m. PT and follow up with a dual against the Spartans at 11 a.m. For more information and a complete schedule, please visit
