STANFORD, Calif. -- The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (26-0) logged a 5-0 sweep of Stanford (12-6) in the first-ever meeting between the two schools at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium on Tuesday, April 18. The Women of Troy stayed undefeated and produced their 11th clean sweep of an opponent this season to extend the program's record winning streak to 56 consecutive dual matches.
USC scored the first point of the dual as sophomore Abril Bustamante and freshman Joy Dennis put together a 21-12, 21-12 win over Catherin Raquel and Shannon Richardson at the No. 4 position. Minutes later, the Trojans went up, 2-0, on a 21-17, 21-13 win at court five, where juniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer took down Kat Anderson and Courtney Bowen. It was the eighth consecutive win for the junior tandem. In a non-counting match, sophomores Becca Dunn and Katrina Kernochan took down Jennifer DiSanto and Chelsea Red-Horse Mohl, 21-16, 21-10.
The Trojans clinched the dual from court two where seniors Sophie Bukovec and Allie Wheeler put together a 21-16, 21-13 win over Payton Chang and Ivana Vanjak. After having a 103-match winning streak snapped last weekend, seniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes got back on the winning track with a 21-14, 22-20 win over Jenna Gray and Kathryn Plummer at the top court to add a fourth point for the Women of Troy. The sweep went into the books on a 21-17, 21-13 win by the Trojans' pair of junior Terese Cannon and senior Nicolette Martin at court three. The duo defeated Morgan Hentz and Caitlin Keefe.
Up next, the Women of Troy return to Merle Norman Stadium where they have won 12 straight duals to host their last four regular-season duals of the spring. USC welcomes CSU Bakersfield and Long Beach State for duals on Thursday (April 20) and then will have Cal Poly and crosstown rival UCLA for two duals on Saturday (April 22) The Trojans' matches on Thursday will be shown live on Pac-12 Los Angeles.
