LOS ANGELES -- The top-ranked USC beach volleyball team (29-0) claimed a 5-0 sweep of Cal Poly (12-21) at Merle Norman Stadium on Saturday, April 22, to extend its home winning streak to 15 consecutive matches. The win pushed the Trojans' overall winning streak to 59 consecutive dual victories.
USC scored the first dual point with a win at court four. There, sophomore Abril Bustamante and freshman Joy Dennis took a 21-16, 21-14 win over Anna Gorman and Savannah Niemen for their ninth straight win. The Trojans went up, 2-0, in the dual with a 21-15, 21-17 win by juniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer over Dora Beilin and Brayden Gruenewald at court five.
The clinching point came from court three where the Trojans' pair of junior Terese Cannon and senior Nicolette Martin posted a 21-12, 21-13 win over Anna Gorman and Raeann Greisen. It was the fifth straight victory for the USC duo. At the top court, seniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes took down Hannah Hubbard and Emily Sonny, 21-16, 21-9, to add a fourth point. The final point of the sweep came from court two as seniors Sophie Bukovec and Allie Wheeler took down Taylor Nelson and Adlee Van Winden, 21-15, 21-17.
Up next, the Women of Troy conclude the regular season with a dual against No. 2 crosstown rival UCLA (26-2) at Merle Norman Stadium.
