TUCSON, Ariz. - The top-seeded and No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (31-0) took down eighth-seeded Utah (1-11) in a 5-0 sweep at Bear Down Beach in Tucson, Ariz. to begin the 2017 Pac-12 Championships on Thursday, April 27. The victory pushed the Trojans' winning streak to 61-consecutive matches and was the team's 14th clean sweep of the season.

USC got on the board first with a win on court five by juniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer, who made quick work of Berkeley Oblad and Emily Twohig in straight sets, 21-9, 21-14. Over on court two, seniors Sophie Bukovec and Allie Wheeler posted a 21-16, 21-7 decision over Utah's Carly Trueman and Bailey Choy to score USC's second point. That victory would be the sixth in a row for Bukovec and Wheeler, who are now 18-5 on the season together overall.

Just a minute later, the dual was then clinched at the top court by seniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes, who defeated the Utes' Adora Anae and Dani Barton by a 21-15, 21-8 score. Claes and Hughes are now 36-1 on the season with a 30-1 record in dual matches.

Court four saw a slight change in the lineup, as sophomore Katrina Kernochan was inserted into the No. 4 spot in place of freshman Joy Dennis, who was out with sickness. There, Kernochan teamed up with fellow sophomore Abril Bustamante and recorded a 21-15, 21-17 victory over Tawnee Luafalemana and Brianna Doehrmann for USC's fourth point of the dual. Finally, the 5-0 sweep was polished off on court three by junior Terese Cannon and senior Nicolette Martin, who pulled out the 24-22, 21-12 victory over Utah's Eliza Katoa and Torre Glasker. That win would be the seventh in a row for Cannon and Martin, who are now just one win away from reaching 30 wins together on the season (29-7 overall).

Next up, the Women of Troy will take on fourth-seeded Arizona State (16-14) in the second round at approximately 6 p.m. PT later today (April 27). The Utes moved down into the Contender's Bracket and will face off against fifth-seeded Stanford at 3 p.m.
