LOS ANGELES - CBS Sports Network will broadcast portions of the 2015 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships on Saturday, May 23, at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT).
The No. 1-ranked USC sand volleyball team went undefeated (28-0) to claim the program's first team championship and the 123rd overall team national title in the school's history. Sophomores Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes completed the season with a 44-3 record and claimed the AVCA Pairs Championship to mark the third straight year that a Trojan pair has won the national tournament.
The Women of Troy entered the tournament with the top seed and held a 24-0 record. USC defeated Stetson (5-0), Pepperdine (3-2), and Long Beach State (4-1), in the first three rounds. LBSU earned a spot in the final through the back draw where the Trojans took out the 49ers, 3-0, to win the title.
Other teams at the championships included Florida State, Hawai'i, Florida International, and Georgia State. The championships were held in Gulf Shores, Ala., for the fourth year in a row and were presented by the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association), the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism group, and community partners that include the Gulf Coast Region of USA Volleyball, the city of Gulf Shores, and several local businesses that have hosted the event from the beginning (2012).
