SAN FRANCISCO -- USC beach volleyball senior Nicolette Martin (Anaheim, Calif.) was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team to highlight the Trojans' seven academic honorees announced by The Conference on Thursday, May 25. Martin was also the Pac-12's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 choice, and now a two-time Pac-12 all-academic first-team honoree.

Martin's partner junior Terese Cannon (Pittsford, N.Y.) and junior Jo Kremer (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) were each chosen to the second team. Kremer makes her second appearance on the second team while Cannon--ineligible for the academic award last season following her transfer from Georgetown--earns her first Pac-12 academic award. Junior Jenna Belton (Aptos, Calif.), senior Sophie Bukovec (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), senior Sara Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.), and sophomore Katrina Kernochan (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) were each named among the Pac-12's academic honorable mention student-athletes. Belton was a second-team choice in 2016 while Bukovec repeats as an honorable mention selection.

Martin holds the team's second highest grade-point average with a 3.70 in fine arts, one of the university's most time- and labor-intensive courses of study. Cannon has a 3.48 GPA in accounting and Kremer has the top GPA with a 3.75 in communication. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's scheduled contests.

The top-ranked Women of Troy went 38-1 in 2017 to capture the program's third consecutive national title and back-to-back NCAA crowns. USC also won its second of back-to-back Pac-12 team titles. Sixth-year head coach Anna Collier improved her all-time record to 146-18 as she guided the Trojans to an undefeated season on home sand (8-0) at Merle Norman Stadium.
