Seniors Stina Gardell (400y IM) and Kasey Carlson (100y breast), sophomore Kendyl Stewart (100y back) and junior Cristian Quintero (200y free) all posted wins in another big night for the USC women's and men's swim teams at the UT Invite on Friday (Dec. 6) at the Joe Jamail Swimming Center in Austin.

The Trojans opened the evening session with a win in the 200y medley relay as sophomore Kendyl Stewart, Carlson and sophomores Jasmine Tosky and Kasia Wilk won in 1:37.54, edging the Longhorns' 1:37.60, with the first `A' cut of the night. The men's `A' team was disqualified, but the `B' quartet of senior Chase Bloch, sophomore Morten Klarskov, freshman Michael Domagala and senior Jack Wagner was fourth (1:27.32).

Gardell won the night's first individual race with a PR in the 400y IM (4:03.56), throwing down the only `A' cut in the race. Fellow senior Meghan Hawthorne took second in 4:07.28, a strong `B' and not far off her own PR (4:06.03). Sophomore Andrea Kropp (4:11.38, ninth) and freshmen Maggie D'Innocenzo (4:17.75, 11th) and Kelsey Kafka (4:18.61, 17th) also posted `B' cuts.

Junior Cary Wright was seventh in the men's 400y IM in 3:48.26 (B) while freshman Steven Stumph took 12th (3:51.58, B).

Freshman Chelsea Chenault led a strong contingent of Trojans in the women's 200y free with a third-place `B' cut of 1:44.68, 0.79 back of Arizona winner Bonnie Brandon (1:43.89). Fellow frosh Alexandra Malazdrewicz reached the final, too, and took eighth (1:46.43, B). Senior Lynette Lim (1:46.12, 10th) and sophomore Joanna Stenkvist (1:46.39, 11th) also posted `B' times.

Quintero won the 200y free with a 1:33.50 (A), just 0.34 off his PR. Senior Dimitri Colupaev (1:34.13, B) and freshman Reed Malone (1:34.84, B), took third and fourth, respectively. Malone's time made him the ninth fastest in Trojan history in the race. Colupaev and Quintero are first and third, respectively, on that list. Freshman Michael Domagala was ninth (1:35.10) and senior Michael Godbe (1:37.56) was 13th, both with `B' cuts.

Carlson won the 100y breast in 58.61, an `A' cut 0.25 off her PR of 58.36, established when she took second at NCAAs last year. The school record in the race is 58.10. Junior Andrea Kropp won the B final with 1:00.89 (B). Tosky won the C final with a `B' cut of 1:02.14.

Klarskov tied for third in the men's 100y breast in 53.65 (B) while junior Sergio Lujan-Rivera was fifth in 53.67 (B). Stewart won the 100y back with a PR of 52.29 (B), 0.67 off the school record and 0.71 better than her previous best. Stenkvist was sixth (53.82, B) and freshman Sidney Cooke was eighth (54.82, B, 54.34 in prelims).

Junior Luca Spinazzola twice went under his school record in the 100y back today. He first lowered it from 46.32 to 46.27 (B) in prelims and then took second in the finals with a 46.31. Bloch was 11th (47.74, B).

The quartet of Chenault, Stenkvist, Malazdrewicz and Lim won the 800y free relay in 7:02.76, 1.62 off an `A' cut and 1.48 off USC's season-best last year. Texas finished well back in second (7:09.84).
